100 from the 20th launch in Roskilde (Denmark)
30 September 2019 | Roskilde (Denmark)
The official launch of the 100 from the 20th selection, made by the EU funded project InnovaConcrete, is planned for September 30th at the Viking Ship Hall of Roskilde (Denmark). The event, organized by the project partners ICOMOS and DOCOMOMO Iberico and sponsored by Dansk Beton, aims to present a new tool developed by the International ICT company, Techedge, which is partner in the project with its Spanish branch. This tool is called “100 from the 20th” and it is an interactive website which shows a selection of 100 buildings from the 20th century spanning all 28 countries in the European Union, illustrating the importance of architectural heritage built using concrete. The main objective is, in fact, to transmit the relevance of this heritage to society at large through a selection of buildings that showcase different uses of concrete and technologies, along with an explanation of their cultural and patrimonial importance. The event is free and it is open to Engineers, Architects, Conservators, Heritage researchers, technical historians, constructor magazines and to all the people interested in the 20th Century Cultural Heritage.
“Vikingeskibshallen (The Viking Ship Hall) is a masterwork of modern Danish architecture” explains Gunny Harboe “It is a unique structure that creatively integrates museum, setting and archaeology in a way that transcends historic definitions. Now it risks to be demolished because of a low public understanding of the modern concrete architecture and ICOMOS ISC20C appeals for immediate action to preserve the Viking Ship Hall as an internationally outstanding architectural ensemble that has significant future large socio-economic potential. This is why we decided to organize here the launch of our new website: raising awareness and communicating that there is an international movement towards a more respectful attitude to historic concrete that opens up for new and sustainable solutions to concrete conservation.” (FIND OUT MORE ABOUT VIKING SHIP MUSEUM AND ABOUT ICOMOS INTERNATIONAL ALERT >>)
